Protein Weight Loss Shakes

Tuesday, 9. March 2010 18:05 | Author:

We’ve all seen them, every day, everywhere. Ads of toned, muscular men and women, and we all wonder what their secret is. 9 times out of 10, we find out that they all drink some form of protein weight loss shake or another. Go to your local nutrition store like GNC for example. Their shelves are lined with them. And the flavors, Baskin Robins and their 31 flavors don’t have anything on these guys. But what makes these “super-drinks” so special?

There are millions of pages of studies about protein weight loss shakes and their effects, but the bottom line is, you need to maintain a steady, healthy diet to go along with those shakes. Mayo Clinic Nutritionist Dr. Katherine Zeratsky cites that there is no scientific evidence that the shakes actually help you lose weight. She goes on to say that Weight loss is achieved by controlling your calorie intake and increasing the number of calories you burn through physical activity.

However, on the opposite side of the coin, proteins fill you up more than traditional eating. You’ll feel satisfied longer, and not as hungry during the day. So by that regard, those protein weight loss shakes can in fact help you lose weight, because you consume fewer calories per day. Of course, these shakes should be combined with a healthy combination of diet and exercise. The general rule of thumb is, if you burn more calories than you consume, you will begin to lose weight.

But take heed – you should only use protein weight loss shakes as a meal replacement once in a while. Because while the drink fills you up, you are not getting the nutrients that your body needs.

So here’s a tip for you next time you see one of those ads with the buff men and women drinking those protein weight loss shakes. Those people sometimes spent years trying to drop the weight. Once its off, that’s the easy part. The key, as everyone should know by now, is diet and exercise.

Tips To Lose Weight

Monday, 8. March 2010 4:52 | Author:

When you ask a friend for tips to lose weight I am sure they tell you something different than if you asked someone else. However I am sure that all these tips have something in common to lose weight quickly. These common areas to lose weight fast are exercise, nutrition, and some sort of weight loss pill or supplement. There is a reason all three of those consistently come up when you ask for tips to lose weight.

Nutrition

Eating right is the key to a long and healthy life so if you are looking to lose weight somehow this should be the first place to look. Always finding yourself eating fast-food or something else high in fat? Try making a healthy lunch to bring with you instead of always going out to eat or getting something from the vending machine. Starting with these little changes will gradually lead to bigger ones which will help you lose weight.

Exercise

Exercise should be known to everyone to be a beneficial part to lose weight fast. There is a reason why school kids stay healthy and in shape which is that they attend gym class and also have recess. Children stay healthier then adults because they are always on the move and doing something. Maybe adults should go and take a page from their kids book and start exercising more. Even a simple walk around the block every night will burn off some of the calories and fat you took in earlier in the day.

Weight Loss Pills

Some people have trouble losing weight and need help. Natural weight loss pills are able to assist someone who is having trouble and help them lose the pounds. The weight loss pills on the market are organic and are able to bind with fat in the body. Proactol is the industry leader and is able to bind to 28% of the fat you take in.

Nutrition and Metabolism Disorder

Saturday, 6. March 2010 18:36 | Author:

What is the relationship between intake of nutrition and metabolism disorder? Is slow metabolism the cause of my overweight? Are there any types of nutrition that can speed it up? Could a pill speed it up?

There are many myths and misconceptions about metabolism. The idea that a low metabolic rate is always responsible for excess weight is one of them. Another is that a slower-than-average metabolism, means you’re destined to be obese.

What is metabolism?

Metabolism is the rate at which your body breaks down the nutrients in food to produce energy. A person with a “fast” metabolism, for example, utilizes calories more quickly, in some cases making it easier to stave off excess pounds.

Your metabolism is primary determined by your body composition: the more total fat-free mass you have the higher your resting metabolic rate will be.

Other factors that determine your metabolism is

heredity hormones such as thyroid and insulin stress calorie intake exercise medications Your baseline metabolism is determined at birth. When you’ve passed the age of 30 and without exercising, the metabolism decreases with the age. However, you can increase your metabolism to a certain extent by exercising and building lean muscle. Each time you significantly reduce calories to lose weight you’ll experience a temporary decrease of 5-10 percent in metabolism.
Workouts for increasing your metabolism

A high-intensity cardio workout that really increases your heart rate will make you lose the most calories and represent the most significant short-term metabolic booster; between 20 and 30 percent. However, it won’t have a permanent effect on your metabolism. After your workout, your metabolism will return to its previous level over several hours–but you’ll continue burning extra calories in the meantime. Though weight training is the most effective way to build and preserve your lean muscles, the muscle influence on metabolism is pretty slight. Each pound of muscle gained, can raise your metabolism up to 15 calories per day.
Can certain foods affect your metabolism?

Most of the scientific research reports that the type of food you eat has no significant impact on your long term metabolism rate. So fats, proteins and carbs seem to affect metabolism similarly. Scientific data also tells that protein can slightly increase metabolic rate, but only temporarly. The more calories you cut, the lower your metabolism rate will drop. An extremely low-calorie diet with fewer than 800 calories a day could cause your metabolic rate to decrease by more than 10 percent. It is not what you eat but how much you eat what really matters. For a safe, sustainable weight loss, the average person shouldn’t eat less than 1,200 calories a day. Spicy foods, such as chili peppers and curry can increase metabolism, but not enough to have a weight loss effect. It’s too small and short-lived.
Pills and Supplements

No pills or supplements have proven to increase metabolism enough to help you lose weight. Some pills, have been shown to lower metabolism, and thus cause a weight gain. Examples of such pills are those used to treat depression and bipolar disorder.
Find out your daily calorie need

For losing one pound of body fat a week, you must create a deficit of 500 calories a day. The most reasonable way to do that, and thus avoid a big metabolic decrease, is through a combination of exercise and diet. You could for example eliminate 2.50 calories from your diet, and add enough activity to burn an extra 250.

Here is how you do it:

Determine your basic metabolism rate or RMR

1 RMR = 655 + (9.6 X your weight in kilograms*) + (1.8 X your height in centimetres**) – (4.7 X your age in years)

2 Factor in your daily activity: Multiply your RMR by the appropriate activity factor:

If you have little or no activity: RMR X 1.2 If you are performing light exercise 1-3 days a week: RMR X 1.375 If you are performing moderate exercise 3-5 days a week: RMR X 1.55 If you are performing strenuous exercise 6-7 days a week: RMR X 1.725 If you perform very strenuous daily exercise, sports or physical job or training twice a day: RMR X 1.9
3 Your final figure represents the minimum number of daily calories that you need to maintain your current weight.

Notes:

(*) Your weight in kilograms = your weight in pounds divided by 2.2.

(**) Your height in centimeters = your height in inches multiplied by 2.54.

Do Nutritional Supplements Support Weight Loss?

Saturday, 6. March 2010 17:29 | Author:

The next best thing you can do to lose weight and keep it off, after choosing a healthy diet, and exercise is to plan a good supplement program. The foundation of a good supplement program should be based on a quality multi-mineral, multi-vitamin daily supplement.

The basic multi-mineral, multi-vitamin daily supplement will supply what your body needs under ordinary circumstances to meet your normal daily needs and prevent disease.

If you are ill, if you have a propensity for a certain problem, if you are trying to recover from a disease or illness of any sort, if you are preparing for an operation, or if you are recovering from operation, you should plan on augmenting the daily supplement with other specialized supplements.

Another serious problem with food is that it is less and less nutritious in terms of vitamin and mineral delivery. Recent studies suggest that vitamins and minerals delivered to the human body by fruits and vegetables may have declined as much as 30 – 40% since 1960!

The problem of poor mineral and vitamin content is even further exacerbated by the wide spread use of chemical fertilizers that bind micronutrients, such as zinc and selenium, in the soil.

This binding makes the micronutrients inaccessible to the plants (the plants cannot get the nutrients out of the soil) and therefore the mature vegetables or fruits are lacking both in major and micronutrients. A highly disproportionate amount of food has added sugars and/or artificial sweeteners.

Some of these are cancer causing in and of themselves being, as they typically are, petrochemical derivatives (artificial flavor usually means carcinogen), but even an innocent sweetener like white (or brown) sugar inactivates your white blood cells by a factor of 40 percent for up to three or four hours!

Imagine, your immune system is weak, then you drink some orange juice (most of it is phony sugar water) or some yogurt loaded with sweeteners (like glucose, sucrose, fructose, real sugar, etc.) and then for the next four or five hours your white cells are disabled (their effectiveness blocked by 40%) and they are unable to successfully defend your system against any attack.

The best general solution to this problem is to dramatically improve your eating habits. It is nearly impossible to do this in an intelligent way unless you take time to inform yourself about food and how to prepare food.

For example, the majority of cooks do not understand that heavy metals bleed from stainless-steel cookware (once its hard, smooth surface is scratched or damaged in any way) into the foods prepared in such pans. We personally prefer enamel pans for most uses.

I should also mention that some recent evidence suggests that the microwave may be one of the most dangerous machines ever invented from a health standpoint.

Since it tears the cells in food apart by intermittent vibration, it may cause you to consume an extraordinary amount of free radicals which will accelerate your aging, promote illness, and weaken your immune system.

If a microwave can give you cancer from standing close to it while it is on just imagine what it is doing to your food. If you want to heat something quickly just put it in your oven and broil it.

Your oven gets extremely hot on the broil setting, so it won’t take much longer than a microwave. If you want to defrost something, plan ahead and defrost it in the refrigerator.

To protect your body and immune system, it is essential to stop eating suspect foods, prepared goods, and most foods that fall in the candy or snack category. For example ordinary crackers are almost universally made with hydrogenated oils and often, like bread, have added iron.

We suggest that you purchase and prepare foods for yourself such as eggs (fry or boil eggs, whole eggs; eggs have a balanced supply of lecithin and cholesterol naturally), poultry (bake a chicken, boil chicken breasts), beef (broil a steak, throw a roast in the crock pot.

And prepare fruit and vegetables. For instance, along with scrambled eggs I might saute a diced onion, a diced apple or two with one or two diced jalapeños in a bit of butter to serve with the eggs.

Use a whole cabbage to steam or saute, add onions and garlic for additional flavor. Obviously, we cannot tell you what to eat or how to prepare it, but it is imperative to get away from most prepared foods (in frozen or shelf boxes, cans, jars, and all foods that are in any way prepared.)

Even yogurt can be dangerous if not plain. The flavored yogurts are often made with petrochemical carcinogens such as color and flavor, and sweeteners that are deadly to the weakened immune system. If you want to flavor your yogurt, buy organic plain yogurt and put fresh fruit and/or granola into it. I feel a safe rule is not to eat anything that would not have been available on the table of your grandfather.

You would not have found bagged salads, which can stay fresh for a week or two, thanks to chemicals, on his table. If I want a salad I chop up some kale, collards, cabbage, tomatoes, peppers, onions, garlic, and stir up some oil, lemon juice, and vinegar; that is a salad.

Something grown in California, chopped and bagged in Chicago, and shipped to your grocer by way of New York is not a salad but it is a lifeless food source.
Another important addition to the diet would be to go on a modified juice fast to help cleanse the body (and particularly the individual cells of the body).

This would be to juice singly, together, or in any combination cabbage, onions, garlic, carrots, apples, pears, peppers, celery, onions, kale, spinach, fruits, and similar foods and to consume only the juice and as much as you can tolerate.

As a rule of thumb, any supplement program you start on, make sure you are getting what you pay for. I highly recommend you find a natural supplement company, one that has a track record of quality, integrity, and understands the power of nature.

Good luck on your journey toward Health & Wellness!
