Is it bad that I’m majoring in nutrition for weight insecurities?

My own family used to say nasty things to me and tease me for being a little overweight. I joined a gym and they put me a diet. I lost 20 pounds from that. Then I got a boyfriend after that (not a good one though) and he criticized me for my weight despite my weight loss. He thought I was still “fat.” I lost another 10 pounds…he was still unhappy. He wanted me to be this tiny girl that’s not very realistic. So that’s why we basically broke up and he found a new girlfriend in no time. It was really hurtful. So honestly, I think it’s traumatized me and changed my life. Now I’m obsessed with thinking about food and weight loss. I even switched my major to nutrition! I like majoring in nutrition because it gives me that advantage of knowing how to get a nice (and healthy) body and I can help other people but is this change bad for me?
No eating disorder here- like I said I’m a nutrition major so I know all about healthy eating (and practice it) and eating disorders.

  1. says:

I see an eating disorder in the near future… seriously.

  2. I don’t think so!! I think you would be a great candidate for this. Not only would you have your degree in nutrition but you would have your personal experience also. Your patients that you will be taking care of in the future will appreciate that. I do hope that you stop being insecure about your weight though. I have also always been. I have finally come to realize it isn’t worth it and that life is too short. I’m doing it for me and no one else. Take care of yourself and good luck in school.

  3. It seems as though you found your major. It will stay with you for the rest of your life. Your children will be happy and healthy as well. If you’re helping people and are happy with it, what else is there? You’ll provide an honest service and reep all the benefits. You might just want to work on your insecurities with a counselor for a short time. I think this is the best major for you and you’ll be great at it. Do what makes you happy, it’s your future.
