Even though there already a lot of people that claims the effectivity of some products, there are still some that are not endorsed by the authority. Many dieters want to enjoy the same taste but are afraid of the caloric content of sweet foods so they settle on sugar supplements. Source: here
One example is Agave Syrup or nectar. Agave syrup comes from agave plant and it is a common ingredient in making tequila. It is famous to Mexicans as “honey water” and is used as ingredients to many foods because it is 40 times sweeter than table sugar.
People now are becoming more aware of the danger of other sugar alternative such as the High Fructose Corn Syrup(HFCS) so they settle to a much healthier alternatives. Dr. Joseph Mercola, HFCS will result to a harmful fats like alcohol. Consuming so much fructose may also spike uric acid level, and impair your appetite control mechanism.
Agave syrup is in reality worst than HFCS, according to the doctor. He enumerated reasons why people must avoid the said syrup. These are some of the reasons. Number one reason is that agave syrup contains the highest amount of fructose which is 70-97% unlike other commercial sweeteners that contain only 55% HFCS Secondly, like how cornstarch is being processed to HFCS, so as the agave. Agave syrup does not go directly to the jar from the plant because it is highly processed. Natural agave syrup is only available in Mexico but it is very expensive. Third is that it is very addictive because it is a highly concentrated sugar. Fourthly, it has no nutritional value because it has been stripped off by the processing. Last is that agave syrup is dangerous and may cause miscarriage to pregnant women because it contains saponin.
