What kind of drugs/weight loss pills do a really nice job or suppressing appetite?

Janie J asked:

I’m trying to lose weight, and I’m wondering what kind of legal drugs or weight loss pills really work. Please don’t tell me to just eat well and exercise, I already do this.

Well, to suppress my appetite, I don’t use a pill…I simply drink a whole bottle of water right before a meal, so I will eat less than I would have.

There are no quick fixes in weight loss. It’s a guarantee that if you lose weight quickly, you’ll put it back on twice as fast.

I needed to lose 80 lbs (doctor’s orders) and I had no idea where to start. I did a complete overhaul on the way I ate – learned how to incorporate more fruits, veggies, lean protein – but I had a difficult time working out because of all the extra weight. My doctor prescribed a combination of phentermine (not covered by most insurance companies) and metformin to surpress my appetite and help burn excess sugar in my system. I also go in for monthly check ups. We used this as a jump start to my weight loss and now, a year later, I’ve lost about 60 lbs, eat fruits and veggies I didn’t even know existed before, and run on a regular basis. I am still currently taking the phentermine and metformin, but will be coming off of it soon.

I would recommend this to anyone that has a large amount of weight to lose. As with any medicine there are side effects. I was a little jittery the first two weeks, but it subsided fairly quickly. It was no worse than if I were to drink too much coffee in the morning. The only side effect that has remained constant is dry mouth. I solve that problem by constantly having a bottle of water with me.

3 Steps to a lower appetite:

    1. To have a slower appetite you should eat foods which are high satiety items.

    2. Eat a lot of small meals each day

    3. Drink plenty of water

    4. Avoid stress and anxiety

    5. Sleep enough hours each night

    6. Avoid alcohol

    No pills required
